February 28, 2017, was declared “Mayor Donald R. Gebien Day 2017” as we welcomed the City of Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien to our Home; and if there was one word to describe our Mayor it would be “humble.”
As demanding as his schedule is, Mayor Grebien never once looked at his watch during his visit; he was fully present with us in mind, body, and spirit—a rarity in today’s fast-paced society.
Our Mayor not only spoke to all of our Residents in the Auditorium but also met with them one-on-one, answering their questions, sharing stories about the city, (the new and old days,) and taking a tour of our Residence.
One of our centenarians, Laura Ballasone, presented the Mayor with a handmade “Patriots” scarf and two complementary tickets to our Irish Fundraiser at the Old Gist Mill Restaurant on March 16. The other centenarian, Mille Drainville, presented his assistant with handmade items for her kitchen. They were both very touched by their gifts. Everyone then was invited to coffee, donuts and pastries.
The Mayor enjoyed a lot of laughter, smiles, and compassion with our Residents and this spirit permeated throughout our home not only on the day of his visit, but also on the days that followed.
We are truly blessed to have Mayor Donald R. Grebien leading our City and on behalf of our home, we thank him for his great work and we look forward a return visit sometime soon!
