Celebrating the 2014 Christmas Season

  • January 1, 2015

Our Christmas week started off with our Residents receiving gifts.  As we all experience the warmth of being loved, the elderly were excited and happily opened their gifts from ‘Santa’.  Thank God for our good friends who supply the Home with many presents.

Christmas Eve brought us to the Chapel at 4:30 PM for the celebration of Holy Mass. The chapel was beautifully decorated with many poinsettia plants (generously donated), filling our Chapel with color and beauty. We are so blessed to have had our three resident priests con-celebrating the Mass. The chapel was filled to capacity.  All were singing old-time favorite hymns.  In fact, the chapel was taken up in enthusiasm and joy while ‘Joy to the World’, ‘Silent Night’, and other well-loved hymns filled the air.

On the Feast of the Holy Family, December 27, our newest Residents received the official induction into the Holy Family Association.  They received their pendants and the booklet explaining the association.  It unites all the aged in our Homes world-wide in a bond of mutual prayer, including the monthly celebration of Masses for their intentions.

Our New Year’s Eve Party was a festive event.  Our Residents were all gathered in the auditorium which had decorations and balloons galore.  Scrumptious hors d’oeuvres were served for all to enjoy and after dinner, homemade cookies graced the tables. While our Residents enjoyed the music from the 40’s and 50’s, all waited for “mid-night”.  A large plastic canvas full of balloons had been fixed to the ceiling, and at “mid-night”, it was let loose!  Those who were ‘armed’ with hat pins popped the balloons to the excitement of all those present.  Our dedicated staff and volunteers helped our Residents have a wonderful time as we ended 2014 and rang in 2015.
