On June 24, Jeanne Jugan Residence brought Tanglewood to Rhode Island for our Tanglewood-themed garden party. Although the day began with a torrential downpour of rain, God answered our prayers, and the weather cleared up beautifully just in time for the start of the party.
Both the auditorium and garden were beautifully decorated for the occasion through the hard work of many volunteers and employees. Hand-made rustic banners and Christmas lights lined the walls, flowers and umbrellas topped the tables, and the lawn-chairs and swings in the garden were quickly occupied by residents who were eager to enjoy the sunny weather.
The party was well-attended, and the employees present greatly enjoyed meeting many of the residents’ family members and friends. The party featured two representatives of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School who played the piano and violin throughout the event, including hits from the ‘40s and ‘50s, much to the delight of many of the residents. The violinist even took requests ranging from “Ave Maria” to “Edelweiss.” towards the end of the party and, much to the residents’ amusement, danced around the auditorium to the violin music.
Overall, the afternoon was filled with new and familiar faces, laughter, music, and lots of food, and all in attendance had a blast soaking in our very own home-made Tanglewood.
