The month of May was welcomed in our home by a visit with the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. This year, as you may know, is the 100th anniversary of the Apparition of Our Lady at Fatima, Portugal, on May 13, 1917.
On May 1, 2017, we began our Pilgrimage in our 4th floor lounge. The statue was escorted very carefully on a beautifully decorated table with wheels by Mother Mercy, and two of our apartment Residents Jane Ferrelli, and Judy Studer. Judy owns the statue and travels all over the country with her to spread the word of Fatima. The Residents recited the rosary together, and sang the Ava Maria at the end.
Then it was on to the 3rd floor lounge, where another rosary was recited, and then to the 2nd floor. It was very touching to see that a few Residents followed along from the different floors. We then finished the journey in the chapel just in time for the 11 a.m. Mass.
The afternoon schedule of rosaries were wonderful. There was a rosary said for employees, volunteers, Sisters, and AJJ members, and of course our Residents. Quiet time was provided for silent prayer and reflection on the Mystery of Fatima. Many people stopped in the chapel that afternoon just for a visit.
The Pilgrimage ended with a Holy Hour at 4:30 p.m. I’m sure Our Lady smiled down on our Home that day in May.
