To close Older Americans’ Month, we hosted our annual “Celebration of Life” with the theme of Living Life at 90! This event is a gigantic, high-class Tea Party during which we honor our Residents who either turn 90 this year or have joined our family already having achieved their 90th birthdays. Our honorees numbered 5 this year, added to our already large family of 90 year elders. Also inducted into our Centenary Club were 3 ladies, bringing our grand total of centenarians to 5, the two oldest of whom will turn 103 this year. During the party, each honoree was introduced to the guests as a short biography is read aloud and then presented to the honoree along with a long-stemmed red rose, and a yellow rose for the centenarians. Following the presentations, refreshments of heart-shaped ice creams, fancy cookies, and pastries were served along with tea and coffee. During this time, classical saxophone music was played by a young volunteer and enjoyed by all. Many cameras were flashing to provide the honorees’ family members with keepsakes for their loved ones and memories of this special celebration.
