Every year, beginning in March, our very crafty Residents at the Home gather to assemble their beautiful palm crosses in celebration of the Easter season. A project spearheaded by one of our long-time Apartment Residents, the palm crosses are sold to benefit the Little Sisters’ Homes in India.
During this season, you can find large groups of dedicated Residents in our Arts & Crafts room, toiling joyously to create beautiful, truly one-of-a-kind crosses made with looped segments of palm and decorative ribbon work and floral appliqués. Each cross is a collaborative effort of several Residents, and no two are exactly alike.
Residents, visitors, and nearby parishes begin calling at the start of the Lenten season with inquiries about these palm crosses – and while it makes for a busy day for many of our dedicated crafters, it is actually quite a blessing. All of this hard work makes for a very successful sale season, which in turn provides for our poorer Homes in India. Our “mission-minded” crafters are always incredibly excited to see how all of their work comes to fruition, all while having a great time and expressing their boundless creativity. Needless to say, we feel very blessed to have them as part of our family here at Jeanne Jugan Residence!
Palm crosses are on sale for $3 each – or 2 crosses for $5 – in the lobby of our Home.
We recommend calling our Home before coming in to be sure that we still have palm crosses available. Due to their popularity, they tend to go fast!
Thank you for your support, and have a joyous Easter!
