Bishop Francis X. Roque

  • September 19, 2018
Bishop Francis X. Roque

On Wednesday, September 19, the Jeanne Jugan Family was privileged to celebrate with Bishop Francis X. Roque the 65th anniversary of his priestly ordination.

Family and friends joined the Little Sisters and Residents in our Chapel to mark this significant milestone and to offer prayers of thanksgiving for Bishop Roque’s priestly service, along with his friendship and support of our Home. Mass was celebrated by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin DD who was joined on the altar by Bishop Roque, Msgr. William Varsanyi, and Bishop Ernest Boland, O.P.

The congregation was reminded of Bishop Roque’s long and distinguished career in service to the Church and to his country. For most of his priestly life, from 1961 to 1983, Bishop Roque served as an Army Chaplain during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was awarded several medals, including a Bronze Star. Retiring from active duty in 1983 he was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Military Services and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2004 supporting the military chaplains in American Veteran Hospitals and the veterans they served.

After Mass, the celebration of this extraordinary milestone continued with a reception at our Home and all were invited to offer in a very personal way their congratulations, gratitude, and prayers to Bishop Roque.
