Christmas in July

Christmas in July

Since the Christmas season was somewhat altered last year, the Little Sisters decided to celebrate Christmas in July. All month long Jeanne Jugan Residence was decked in red, white and blue combined with the red, green and gold Christmas trees! The festivities included a very special visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus and a delicious Christmas Barbecue, a thoughtful donation from very generous benefactors.

“Making the elderly happy, that is what counts,” said our Mother Foundress, and the elegant couple from the North Pole, donned in fur-lined and embroidered velvet, did just that. Presenting candy and cookies and gifts to our Residents, they brought child-like joy to each and every one! Santa Claus recited Samuel Clements’ “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and concluded the classic story with the most authentic ‘Merry Christmas & Ho Ho Ho!’ you have ever heard!

Before the month-long celebration came to an end, the entire home – Residents, Staff and Sisters, were treated to a delicious Christmas in July Barbecue. The generous donation included ribs, chicken, corn on the cob and corn bread prepared by our good friends at The Old Grist Mill Tavern. Pounds upon pounds of potato salad was made by the Little Sisters and a delightful lemon dessert capped off the summertime Christmas spread.

Such joy for our Residents! Such fun for our Staff! A special treat for the Sisters! We are so very grateful!
God willing we will be able to celebrate Christmas in December this year.
