A perfect ending to summer was the Annual Family Picnic held on Saturday, September 14. While the weather was cool, the sunny day beckoned some of the residents and family members outdoors to enjoy their picnic lunch.
Picnic fare, prepared by Sr. Emilie and the kitchen staff, was in abundance in two locations: hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, salads, and fresh from the farm …. corn on the cob. Our residents were happy to take part in the preparations, spending their Thursday afternoon music hour husking corn!
The dessert tables were quite an attraction, with such a bountiful array of baked goods so generously provided by the residents’ family members.
The day would not have been complete without entertainment for both the young and the “young at heart.” Face Painting, visits from Bobo the Clown, and a 2 pm magic show featuring “The Great Baldini,” brought a lot of smiles and laughter.
As the day came to a close, we paused to thank God for the goodness of others who made this enjoyable day possible … our Little Sisters, benefactors, staff, AJJ members and volunteers. In the words of St. Jeanne Jugan … “Making the elderly happy-that is what counts!”
