We celebrated the feast of our Patron, Father, and Protector St. Joseph with much solemnity. Our Mass was celebrated by Bishop Ernest Boland, O.P., Msgr. William Varsanyi, our chaplain, Fr. Timothy Riley our newly appointed Vicar and Chancellor of the diocese, Fr. Al Barrera, O.P., and our three Resident priests. After Mass our guests visited the Residents in the two upstairs dining rooms and upon returning to the main dining room, they all donned white aprons. Our tradition of priests serving our Residents on this feast was explained to them and they were thrilled to participate. When they completed their tasks it seemed like they found it difficult to leave the Residents in order to sit down to their own dinner. Table talk among them included how they enjoyed being at the service of the aged. Msgr. Varsanyi is an old hand at this since he did it many times, many years ago. He contributed many memories of feast days past to the conversation. In the afternoon, Msgr. Varsanyi came over to bless our St. Joseph Table, another “old” tradition, which was elegantly prepared in the auditorium. The room was filled with residents and visitors and of course, the desserts were enjoyed by all!
