“Blessed be God, thank you my God, glory be to God!” These words of St. Jeanne Jugan rang through our hearts as we joined in the celebrations happening throughout the country to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Arrival of the Little Sisters of the Poor in America.
The local celebration for Jeanne Jugan Residence in Pawtucket was held May 4, 2019 at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. It was a beautiful day to come together in the Diocese of Providence to give thanks to God for His Providence these last 150 years.
We were joined by nearly 300 of our friends including Little Sisters from various locations in the Brooklyn Province, Residents, the Knights of Columbus, employees, Association Jeanne Jugan, volunteers, benefactors, and Advisory Council members.
Our Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin. Several priests, seminarians, and members of other religious communities around the Diocese were also present.
Following Mass we all joined together in the Cathedral Hall to continue our celebration and to share our joy with one another.
We are grateful for all of those who helped to make this day so special. We look forward to continuing the mission of St. Jeanne Jugan, caring for the elderly in Rhode Island, for another 150 years and beyond!
